Massage Therapy Consent, Professional Boundaries & Shared Responsibility
Massage therapy is a collaborative experience grounded in communication, trust, and mutual respect. My role as your Licensed Massage Therapist is to provide professional, ethical, and attentive care that supports your comfort, safety, and overall well-being.
Therapist Responsibilities
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I am responsible for:
- Practicing within the scope of my education, training, and licensure
- Providing a safe, clean, and respectful environment
- Using appropriate draping at all times to protect your privacy and comfort
- Applying techniques intended to support relaxation, circulation, mobility, and nervous system regulation
- Adjusting pressure, positioning, or techniques based on your feedback
- Maintaining professional boundaries at all times
- Treating all personal and health information as confidential, except where disclosure is required by law
Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical care and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any medical or psychological condition.
Client Responsibilities
As the client, you agree to:
- Provide complete and accurate health information and disclose relevant medical conditions, injuries, medications, or sensitivities
- Inform the therapist of any changes in your health status before or during a session
- Communicate openly and honestly about pressure, comfort, positioning, or emotional responses
- Speak up immediately if something feels uncomfortable, inappropriate, or needs adjustment
Your communication is encouraged and welcomed. There is no “right” or “wrong” feedback. You remain in control of your session at all times, and your comfort and sense of safety are a priority.
Professional Boundaries & Conduct
Massage therapy sessions are strictly professional and non-sexual.
Any sexual comments, gestures, requests, or behavior are not permitted and will result in the immediate termination of the session, with explanation and documentation as required. Payment for the session will still be due.
What to Expect
Massage therapy may produce temporary effects such as deep relaxation, emotional release, or mild muscle soreness following a session. These responses are typically short-lived. Questions are always welcome, and clients are encouraged to communicate any concerns or follow up after their session if needed.
Massage therapy and bodywork involve therapeutic touch intended to support relaxation, wellness, and relief of muscular tension. Professional boundaries and conduct are maintained at all times. Clients are encouraged to communicate their comfort level, needs, and preferences throughout each session.
Every effort is made to ensure a safe, supportive, and comfortable experience. By choosing to receive massage or bodywork services, clients acknowledge their voluntary participation and personal responsibility in communicating their needs and responses to treatment. The practice and therapist are not responsible for outcomes or conditions that may arise, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
